Remote Session Guidelines

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, starting March 25 and until new notice, all Compiler Design class sessions will be taught remotely. In order to make the best of it, please have in mind the following indications:

• Classes will take place through the Zoom video conferencing and online meeting service. Make sure you have the Zoom client app installed on your computer. Classes start at the same day and time as usual: Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. with a 5 minute tolerance.

• If Zoom stops working at any time during the class, further instructions on how to proceed will be provided through the course's Facebook group.

• The rest of the resources for the course (this web site, the Facebook group, GitHub, etc.) will be available and used as usual.

• To join a class follow this link using your web browser:

  Alternatively, you can also join a class through the Zoom web site or client app by providing the Meeting ID or Personal Link Name:

• Every class session will be recorded. The corresponding videos will be made readily available on YouTube and their unlisted links will be posted on the course’s Facebook group.

• Your name during the Zoom meeting should consist of your given name (choose the one you prefer if you have several), followed by your first family name, followed by your student ID. So, for example, if your name is “María Expropiación Petronila Lascuráin Torquemada” and your student ID is A01377731, then your display name should be something like:

• Your microphone and video should only be open when speaking in class or when explicitly requested. Any other time they should be closed, as shown here:

• You will be required to participate in each class. This can be done in several ways:

  • If you want to speak, just click on the Unmute button and start talking. Also click on the Start Video video so that everyone can see you.
  • By sharing your screen or using the chat.
  • Using nonverbal feedback:
    1. Click the Participants button
    2. Click one of the icons to provide feedback to the host. Click the icon again to remove it. NOTE: You can only have one icon active at a time.
    • raise/lower hand: click this if you want to ask a question or participate in some other way
    • yes
    • no
    • go slower: click this if you want the presenter to go slower
    • go faster: click this if you want the presenter to go faster
    • Additional icons are available by clicking the more button:
      • dislike
      • like
      • clap
      • need a break: click this if you feel that everyone in class needs a break
      • away: click this if you are going to be temporarily away from your computer
